I don't have a listing (at least to hand) with that particular number, but it appears to be an 1100 Engine, but well before the Unleaded Sets were fitted.

<Edit: I'm thinking that it was for an ADO16 - the 1100 series of cars. Basically the same as a Mini Engine, except for the Engine Plate, but that's pretty straight forward to swap. >

I would agree with your information.

I would add that if this engine was bought with a gearbox fitted to check the ratios before fitting it in your Mini as the Austin 1100 / 1300 final drives where very very low and you will not be able to get it past 70..

Ahhh. Box no comment but 1275 block and head rather than a 1100.

Thank you very much for your help so far. I'll do the checks Uncle Cooperman suggested.

I can tell you for now, that the the ADO 16 guess might be very close as the gear ratio is very low. I can outmatch almost every car at the traffic lights and it revs close to 5.500rpm at 70 mph.

I'll let you know.......

Thank you once again.

So, it looks as if it's a standard 1275 A-Series engine meant for an Allegro (ADO67). It has no cam chest covers and I already mentioned the low gearing.....

It also explains why it runs best with the distributor at 13 degrees before TDC. It also means I have the wrong carb settings and the wrong distributor according to my manual....

I have a Mini-Sports stage one kit in the shelf, for after german MoT (wouldn't pass with it), I'll have to find somebody with a test-rig to see how powerful it is.....

Quite fortunate, as it was sold to me as a standard 998cc engine.

THANK YOU to everybody for your help !!!

....for now, I have to find out why the light in the instrument panel doesn't turn on, the brake control switch will not alight AGAIN and why it won't start anymore (there's no spark). It's been off the road for three years and I had an appointment with the tester for Thursday....I'm so fed-up with not being able to afford bringing it to the workshop and having it dealt with.
