Hello everyone,

First of all the configuration ;
- 91 Cooper
- Ho-Lo kit, standard height
- Standard rubber cone
- Gaz shocks damper std height
- Yokohama A048R

Now the problem :

On some curve or in all roundabout, the car is on three wheel (2 rear and 1 front). Because of that I have a lack of motricity during a little time and after this time I recover all the motricity when the 4th wheel touch the road.

My setting for the gaz shocks are :
 - Front, 6 clicks from the most soft
 - Rear, 4 clicks from the most soft

For me this adjustment is really soft and I don't want to soften more the car.

I don't want to buy a limited slip differential.

The car geometry has been adjust by a professional.

Do you see a solution ?

thank you.

To me, what you have described sounds a bit extreme for it to be just the shocks on an otherwise standard setup.

Is it happening in both directions? Is it as a result of bumps or just change in direction ?

Could the suspension being running out of travel either as a result of donuts, poorly seated knuckles or shocks ? Does it have lowered shock mounts ?

front and back

or jump up and down on the front door sill see if both front the same

Exactly what i was thinking.  doubt a shock (unless sticking in) would cause this.

My advice would be to check everything, an as others have suggested, check that something isn't fitted incorrectly.

Is there any possibility that you were sent ( maybe only one ) shocks for a lowered car?  You could confirm by removing the one that is lifting and measure it's closed/open length.... eye to eye

Sounds like wrong set up like wrong tie bar lenght or wrong rear tracking, whats the behaviour with another set of damper

How do you know the front wheel is off the ground? Does it happen on both front wheels when cornering i.e. right wheel when cornering right and left when cornering left?

How high is the wheel clear of the road surface?

I've never seen a Mini lift a front wheel when cornering hard. I've often had a back wheel come off the ground though. Lifting a front wheel would be most unusual.

what do you mean by motricity? Drive?

Minis will lift a rear wheel when pushed hard in a corner but will understeer before lifting a front wheel.

as you have high-lows fitted have you checked the corner weights as if these are way out you can get the three legged stool (chair) effect.

you have checked that the shocks do feel and move the same?  if they do then unlikely to be a shock issue.

First up, be sure the rubber cones are in good condition? If they are the original ones, they will need replacing. While they do get squashed and 'settle' (we all know that), they also get hard and loose useful travel.

Try stiffening the rear up some more, it won't make the ride much harsher. They are good shocks, though you do get what you pay for, but for 95% of road use (even spirited) these are quite OK, beware, some are just over priced too.

If that doesn't get you what you'd like, then the only other option is a non-open diff like a Quaife and that's what I found I needed.

Nick & Moke, have you ever seen or heard of any Mini, even in racing or rallying, lifting a FRONT wheel during hard cornering on tarmac? I never have and find it most strange and am unable to offer a solution to a never seen before phenomenon.

Not in racing, but my Road Going Red Mini almost lifts a front, certainly enough to loose a lot of drive traction.
