Clutch & Brake M/cylinder Clevis Pin Tool

Having spent a frustrating time lying upside down in the footwell trying to fit the clevis pin back into the clutch master cylinder, I made a simple tool.

I'm sure someone must have done this before but I've not seen it so if anyone is interested here it is.

2 slots cut in the end of a steel strip (junior hacksaw) just wide enough for the pin then bend the centre tong to grip its head  and you can easily reach up behind the steering column to insert it in the fork.

Not one of the most fun jobs for sure but you tool would definitely make it much easier. Nice work, well done!

I just use a pair of long reach needle pliers :) And use an R clip over a split pin for simpler installation.

Tool looks great I've made one similar like a ball joint splitter as I had a real pig of one that was corroded to the point of snapping

I use a thin wire from the sewing box of my wife what i put through the hole in the pin, make a knot, and then put the wire through the holes where the pin must go. For that I use  a pincet. Once the wire is through the holes where the pin must go, pull the wire gently. To put the securen 'fish' through the hole of the pin I use again a wire through the eyelet and with the pincet take the eyelet pull the wire gently, so that you can point the fish through the hole.

Alex, last time I went to order some from Somerfords, they no longer stocked them. What's the score on that?

 

Theirs were spot on, the same that they fitted here on the line, all the other's I've found are too long (and quite dangerous).

I've got a few, they are 3/4" overall length, off hand, I don't have the wire dia, but would be about 1/16".

 

I found some at Merlin Motorsport, just a tad long (about 15/16") and probably can be trimmed - not sure just yet - but would be nice just to be able to fit them without breaking the ZP on them.

Ok will have look as well as there has to be some good metric ones about as the pin is effectively the same as a 8mm clevis pin.

I have got to make me one of these tools. I'm sick of taking drivers seat out lying down with my feet up rear window and trying to tap the split pin out and then put it back in really hate this job on the mini. I allways say how the hell did they do this job on the production line he must of been an idiot to take this job on! Lol 😀
