I'm sure the twin tanks were segregated from the interior with some suitable panel work. It they weren't then it was almost criminal negligence in safety terms.

Has Anyone Ever Removed The Rear Seat? If So Why Not?

I have.
The shock mount is through the roll-cage on the turret which has moved the rear stays out further, meaning I had to come up with a way to seal that area.
Untill I had put in the rear seat replacement the rear of the shell could be flexed by pushing on the upper rear quarter panel... Sure the vital suspension points would be supported so any body flex would be negligable, but I wouldnt want to be in an unseperated cabin from the fuel tank.
I've also done my front bulkhead.
I wouldnt consider doing these sort of things to a shell wiithout a weld in rollcage. The extra points supporting the toe board and lower front bulkhead, A-pillar, B-posts and the heel board.

I have too.
Would I do it to a road car? Probably not.

It has to be said that this is a very nice job. Well done. It has been done properly with all safety aspects considered as well as weight saving.

.until the tank was fitted under the rear floor like the van.
Poses the idea of perhaps somehow modifying it to fit the saloon body. If fold down seats are a real must.

After the state of the rear of my car when it got hit, I'd only ever do this if I had a full roll cage fitted, and was used for racing only. You never know what may happen on the road...
Twas but a scratch

You would probably have to relocate the spare wheel and battery as they did on the van and put a tank low down inside the rear subframe as some race Mini's do.
Most modern cars no longer carry any kind of spare wheel anyway........
