Will stick a plus in for the 255 piper running one on my 1340 so much torque and revs happly to 5 not gone any higher yet no need. I drive in heavy traffic every morning its lovely to drive I had a 286 in the last one it didnt like it but would pull to over 6. The 255 pulls from 1500 ish smooth tick over.

I run a 276 in my 1330 and the key is the setup of the advance curve and the correct profiled needle, if wrong and poorly setup people say dam cam when its not.

I built a 1330 with an MG Metro cam. It had a mildly flowed head with 35.6/30.5 valves, and HIF44 carb, all assembled carefully and on the MASS Motorsport rollers it gave 84 bhp at 5700. Super torque from about 2200 and would pull from about 1800. Exhaust was twin-box 1.75" Maniflow.
That was for a road rally car and it was ideal.

I'm going to plant a similar head on my 1293 with MG Cam. 35.7mm/31.0mm. Can you remember what needle you used or was it reprofiled? My current setup with a standard head is a BDL.

I don't have a record of the needle.
The comp ratio was 10.2:1. Rockers were standard. Ignition was Aldon 'Yellow'
It was much more pleasant to drive than my 'S' which has a 286, twin H4 carbs, 11.1;1 c.r.
I ran it with a 3.44 FDR and standard ratio helical gears with a x-pin diff.
