Hey guys , basically ive got a milwaukee cordless grinder thats broke (waiting to hear from them as its still under warranty) but its thread is 5/8-1 . I didnt realise this until i orderd a knotted wheel and it had a 14mm thread , what i was wondering is what 4 1/2" grinders do people use that accept a 14mm knotted wheel or wire brush . Thanks in advance

I use the cheap silverline ones from tool station, ive got through 3 of them now but at 20 quid each its still less than a posh one and the kind of use they get restoring a mini im sure even the posh ones wouldnt hold up that well! so i would deffinatley reccomend getting a nice affordable one!

Makita. Think I paid £100 for a 4 1/2 and a 9 inch and they are brilliant as would expect.

I have a pair of 30 year old Black and Decker ProLine grinders and have got through a few cheap ones over the years.

Just make sure the gears are metal not plastic.

Bosch &  Makita  4 1/2 inch with 14mm boss

been using them 12 years now  - both going strong (touching wood)

as above - plastic crown wheel won't last long on the cheap ones

the knot wheels are great , but wear all the ppe - their vicious

My Makita one is great but the box is a total ball ache, I can only assume it was designed for a euro plug but closing the lid with a uk plug is nigh on impossible. Crap design and irritates every time, that's before I start on the Makita cordless drill, I have one at home and bought two for work less than three years ago. All came with two batteries and I now have a total of one working battery between them. Not impressed and I won't be buying Makita again.

The smaller the better I reckon, you can't grind it if you can't get to it. If you get a 4 inch grinder with a M10 shaft you can always use a M14 adapter to fit brushes etc - the extra hand clearance is a bonus too.

Don't bother with the mc alister ones from b&q, lasted me 3 weeks until bearing failure lost the receipt was not happy considering my challenge extreme grinder lasted 3 years of heavy use.

I have a B&Q own brand one performance power I think it's called , had it over 4 years now and never missed a beat .l bought it to replace a Bosch one that lasted 3 weeks before it overheated and melted the bearing housing .

I have a makita 18 volt cordless one - brilliant but does wear the batteries out quick!

I also use makita for my electric one- and would recommend them for value and they last for ever!

Take a look on this place- I T S they are a great company - I buy all my gear from them!

Out of interest what was your Milwaukee one like- always liked the look of their tools- but seem a bit pricey??!!
