I have recently replaced the clutch oil seal and worn down clutch plate while I had it apart in my 91 carb 1275(verto clutch).Since I have replaced the above, and corrected the primary gear end float as it was out of spec, plus added the oil seal protector that was not previously fitted.
I now have noticed a rattle/knocking noise on idle, sounds like its deep down into the engine somewhere and cannot really confirm if its doing it driving it aswell,as my exhaust is quite loud.
My first thoughts were the valve clearances, but I have checked and adjusted to 12 thou on all.No joy.
Second thought after reading other posts is it maybe the Idler gear end float, which I did not check (arkward to get at),as engine still in the car?
Other thing to note is can hear a loose type of clacking sound when switching engine off and it occasionally overruns a sec or two,as if its timing related?
Any ideas,as its due to be painted and don't fancy trying take the clutch out again afterwards.
Cheers

I put one up next week when I am back home. In the meantime any info gratefully received.
Does the clutch and flywheel have to go back on at any sort of marking points? or just bolt it up and fit.

Hi,
There could be a number of causes. It could be something like a loose drive strap bolt. Also check things like the bolt lengths that hold the engine mounts onto the clutch "wok". If these were removed during the clutch change it's quite easy to put in the wrong ones, especially if you've got a few lying about!
Did the flywheel go back on to the crank tail ok and straight?
Cheers, Steve.

I think all engine mount bolts were equal lengths. The flywheel did seem to line up with the clutch ok onto the crank,as it did torque up and I was also able to fit the keyway into the end of crank and pean over the washer also.
Does anyone have a pic of the verto clutch how it is assembled to each other part by part,as I wonder if the dowels line up with the holes in the pressure plate I think it was or do they rest on the solid part of it.
