You're going to have to follow the cables from the stalk to the plug, from the plug to the fuse box. Then from the motor to the fuse box. Certainly sounds like a melted cable

I think you're right Batmini, let's hope it's not buried deep in the wrapped bundles or it's going to be a nightmare to locate.

It turned out to be the stalk that was blowing the fuse. It looked ok under examination but must have been screwed inside. I fitted a new stalk and that sorted it.

I have completely replaced every item in the wiper setup with new, including the motor. It all works now but the wipers still don't self park so not sure what is happening with that.

I've just forked out on a new motor so would hope the park switch that came with it is working properly.
