One approach I'd heard of to really block road noise (for the fabrication-minded among us...) is deaden the floor, CCF isolation layer, then a seamless layer of 1/32" lead sheet, almost forming a new floating floorpan.

I have never worked with lead, I wonder how easy it would push or hammer into shape? Would be covered with carpet, so would just need to be a simple, but close-fitting shape around tunnel and up bulkhead

Lead is quite easy to mold and cut, but I think it's a bit far for me.

OK, so without doing a lead layer, would the best sound proofing be:

- SilentCoat mat 2mm @ ~50% coverage (to prevent panel/floor drumming)

- Then, 2mm MLV (mass loaded vinyl) layer on top of the SilentCoat mat

- Then a layer of CCF (closed cell foam)

- Then the carpet (need underlay?)

I used a lead layered material to line the bulkhead and front internal floor area and engine bulkhead to reduce the sound from the SC drops.

Sound is much more bearable.

Got it from here

Deadening, CCF then MLV, then carpet (keep underlay if you have room!)

Can definitely vouch for silentCoat.  In fact, im pretty sure I did a How To on it somewhere on here.  Wish I put CCF under my carpets though as its rather noisy   Will do that before it hits the road again :)

I got reasonable sized CCF camping mats from various pound shops, worth looking out for

Hey guys,

I was looking at using Lizard Skin ceramic and sound coating but really struggling on the area of the panels to coat. How many M2 are the following:

  • Roof
  • Floor Pan
  • Wheel Arches
  • Engine bay
  • Boot
  • Doors
  • Rear Quarter Panels

I have to import from the US as can't find it in the UK at a decent price and so don't want to order too little or way too much?

Any help guys would be fantastic

Thanks
