Hi all my brother has a early spi cooper, It has been running ok. However the other day he went to use the car and smoke came from around the starter motor and solenoid area. So obviously took the power away by disconnecting the battery before a fire started.

Now after sorting a new starter etc the car still wont fire and the fuel pump wont prime either. When the key is turned the oil light comes on by the power one does, however the interior light works and there is the correct volts to the battery so it isnt that.

Fuses are also fine etc

Anyone got any idea? We are thinking check the wiring to the starter as that could have been damaged from being to hot etc?

Anyone got any ideas?

cheers

Hi it doesn't have an alarm just an immobiliser however we could look at that, the fuses seem ok, just looking now for any inline ones that might be hidden.

there should be a bunch of crappy inline fuses coming out of the main loom on the bulkhead. They caused all sorts of problems on my old spi and I think one of them was the feed for the pump.

Eventually I chopped them all out of the loom and fitted a second fuse box to the bulkhead.
