I own a 1984 Mini 25, with original 998cc engine. A few months back I bought a 1275 engine (as I wanted the extra power), with the intention of carrying out the transplant myself. Since then, winter has passed and summer is fast approaching but my sorry little car and new engine sit un-touched and I have come to the sudden realisation that I simply don't know what I'm doing. My knowledge of cars is very, very basic.
I wondered if any of you fellow Mini-loving chaps would be interested in giving me a hand in swapping out the engines and getting it up and running, whilst showing me the ropes. Of course, I'd be willing to pay you for your time and efforts. Failing that, any advice and tips to point me in the right direction would be great!
I am still short of a few bits to get me underway, but here's a list of what I have and what (I think) I need:
-- HAVE ---
* 1275cc A-Series Engine c/w gearbox
* HIF44 Carburettor (in need of a refurb)
* Uprated alternator (from old engine)
* Coil (both ballasted and non-ballasted as I don't know which I'd need)
* Aluminium 2-Core Rad (from old engine)
* Water Pump (from old engine)
* Thermostat & housing (from old engine)
* Engine Crane
--- WHAT (I THINK) I NEED ---
* Correct inlet manifold (though I may just go ahead and buy a suitable Stage 1 Kit)
* Gasket set
* A rewiring kit??
Of course I'd source these parts myself before going ahead and I may very well have missed out stuff that I'll need, as I mentioned my knowledge of cars is very basic. So if that is the case, I'd really appreciate some pointers on the parts/tools I'll need.
Just as a heads up, if you were willing to jump in and offer your services, I live in Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire.
Cheers,
Jamie
