Just iPhone with a pen torch shining down the bore.

Driven carefully. Gentle loads. Not grandad driving but not with a heavy foot.

Mostly around town so plenty of engine speed changes.

No oil burn as yet. No untoward noises. 0.005" skirt clearance mid bore.

Great result with the photo all the same.

 

With 0.005" clearance, it is on the quite big side and I doubt it would have caused scuffing like that from lack of clearance, though could be from other causes.

 

Respectfully, are you sure it was measured correctly?  Measurement is done on the lower skirt, not from the piston crown. Most piston manufacturers show where the clearance should be measured from.

 

For example, typical 1275 piston to bore clearances are in the order of 0.002 to 0.003"

Lower skirt, 90 degrees from pin line. Around mid bore
