Ohh that would sound like a broken spring giving valve bounce?

Yeap, sounds damn awful and in pain!

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for your responses so far but I am still stumped.

Had a great weekend at MITP and even got an MOT sorted (despite hydrocarbons being almost off the scale) and new distributor on.

I was hoping the garage that did the MOT might be able to offer some suggestions or at least let me use the brake tester to explore the possibility or sticking valves in the head but unfortunately not. It does seem to be an exhaust-y type noise and the hydrocarbons support that. If I block the exhaust and rev there is nothing unusual so it seems that the manifold side of things may be okay. Engine is solid on the mountings and the noise comes under load both forward and in reverse.

I have a short video that might help someone recognise the sound I am talking about. The quality and camera skills are awful but you may be able to work out what I am talking about in THIS CLIP (the better examples are just before it unhelpfully goes out the window at the start and after turning right and pulling away at the end).

Any suggestions very welcome but I think the next step is going to be getting on a proper rolling road or switching the cylinder head over as I do have the original kicking about still.

Hopefully the settings are okay to view the link without any sign up?

I could here something odd when I had a listen last night.
