Apart from removing the Cat itself, is there anything else which needs to be done? P :- resumably, the Cat needs to be replaced for the MOT.

I was wondering about this and came accross this:

6. Your vehicle has had its catalytic converter removed and replaced by a normal exhaust silencer but passes the emissions Test. Does it fail the MOT because it hasn't got a catalytic converter when it should have one?

a) No, if it passes the emissions part of the MOT that is acceptable.

The difficult bit is getting it through the emissions test without the cat.

Carb engines that normally hed a cat are not so much of a problem, CO is 3.5% i think but the injection engines are 0.3%

Also the later emissions tests for the injection engines actualy shows up that the cat is not working because it fails to meet the correct CO levels.

This all depends on the guy doing the test, they can some times test the emissions on the old levels.

flamejob-being a 92 your cat can come off i believe. think the rules are from the 1 august 1992 it has to have one.

Mini59- what age is your car?

Well i've heard that a Mini owner checked all the details at his local MOT testing station/garage and apparantely a Mini fitted with a carb regardless of it's age doesn't need to have a cat fitted because the MOT tester shouldn't do the cat check only the CO check.

The Mini owner claimed there's information at the back of the ruling book he looked at which concerns Minis, but if it's an injection model then it has to have a cat.

I've heard the same there! I've got a 1993 Mayfair and i'm going to take the cat off of that.

for the time it takes to undo it and refit it, id refit it for MOT.

saves you a half-rest fee when u take it back because it failed 1st time for no cat.

Mine is a ‘93 with 1275 carb. I have just fitted a stage 1 kit and did not re-fit the cat. I asked the local mini place and they said I do not need the cat for the MOT. My MOT is due in March, I can let you know how I it goes then :w00t:)

yet another 93 mini running carb...southam mini and metro centre actualy told me mine didnt need to have a cat right before i went to buy my system so i dont even have a place for a cat pipe.
when it went through the MOT this year it actualy had the dellorto on...they were going to fail it on emmisions but i had to explain to them becuase it was a early 93 mini the cat and the emissions werent so strict so they said yer ok ill go check it againt the old style graph and i still dont know how it passed maybe they were pulling a sly one :w00t:

I was wondering about this because when i bought my mini (93 sprite) i found out it had failed its mot for not having a cat fitted, Guess it varies depending on who tests it
