6. Your vehicle has had its catalytic converter removed and replaced by a normal exhaust silencer but passes the emissions Test. Does it fail the MOT because it hasn't got a catalytic converter when it should have one?
a) No, if it passes the emissions part of the MOT that is acceptable.

Carb engines that normally hed a cat are not so much of a problem, CO is 3.5% i think but the injection engines are 0.3%
Also the later emissions tests for the injection engines actualy shows up that the cat is not working because it fails to meet the correct CO levels.
This all depends on the guy doing the test, they can some times test the emissions on the old levels.

The Mini owner claimed there's information at the back of the ruling book he looked at which concerns Minis, but if it's an injection model then it has to have a cat.

Well i've heard that a Mini owner checked all the details at his local MOT testing station/garage and apparantely a Mini fitted with a carb regardless of it's age doesn't need to have a cat fitted because the MOT tester shouldn't do the cat check only the CO check.
The Mini owner claimed there's information at the back of the ruling book he looked at which concerns Minis, but if it's an injection model then it has to have a cat.
I've heard the same there! I've got a 1993 Mayfair and i'm going to take the cat off of that.

saves you a half-rest fee when u take it back because it failed 1st time for no cat.
