I know there are a couple of option regarding a crank damper

namely the 2 piece version - http://minispares.co...sic/12A367.aspx plus pulley

and the 1 piece version - http://minispares.co...|Back to search

I wonder if someone knows or can measure the thickness of their damper and pulley assembly and let me know which on it was?

I need to know which to buy for my k1100 SC headed engine. I bought a MED damper and it it too thick.

Many thanks

Craig

I can't get the picture uploaded but the measurement from the outside of the pulley to the inside of the thrower is 37mm.

I would call that a one piece with thrower and reads over 41mm with thrower.

The 2 pieces is the S type.

It only reads 37mm from the outside of the damper to the thrower (this is the picture that wouldn't post) The 41mm is from the outside of the damper to the end of the centre.

I'd say that's AHU1878, the standard A+ item. As the rubber permanently bonds the counterweight you could call it one piece.

I'm a bit puzzled how the kad one is too thick, they all need to accept the fan belt in the same place, so any additional thickness is to the outside.

The KAD damper will work, but you will need to modify the engine/radiator mount bracket as it will rub on the damper.  And you will need to find an alternative sensor mounting as the tooth section is not in the same place as the SC damper arrangement.  You will also need to go into the ECU and adjust the offset of the tooth as the KAD is 50deg as opposed to the SC which is 40deg.

I did find my SC damper rubbed very slightly too.  If you want pics and measurements of my SC one just shout.

It is a MED damper i bought. It is actually both too thick and has too large a diameter to work.  it is 32.5mm /including the pulley, so the trigger wheel is too far away for the sensor.

I have read the two piece version is the better factory option. But I can't find a complete assembly, they all seem to be sold as parts which need balancing.

No probs.

Craig, you might need to make up a custom bracket if you are going to use anything other than the SC setup.

Craig,

I take it that tooth wheel came with the head kit?

I'd expect most people using the 2 part 'S' damper would balance it as part of the crank assembly. I don't think you'd have any difficulty finding someone to balance one you put together. See if you can get the dimensions as the MED item looks to copy the design.

This one looks like it might work, if you make or modify a crank sensor bracket.
