Hey folks. I'm new to the mini world. I picked up a mini 25 a little less than a year ago from a German fellow. Said it hadn't ran in about 3 years. It took me a little while and quite a few dollars but it's on the road. I will be taking on the task of restoring this thing when I get back stateside. But I was just wondering if you folks could take a quick look at my pics and maybe help identify any issues. Just by looking at other minis it seems like my electrics are all wrong. I don't even know what 3 of the 7 switches on my dash do. Fuel needle doesn't work. Ithe drops rpms when the headlamps are on. Just to name a few. Thanks in advance!

sounds like the battery is on the way out or the earth contacts are poor for one and the rest we will need the pictures.

still get it checked.

at a guess it has an extra heater unit.

time to get tracing the wires as the switches could be for anything.

And that red lever on a plumbers tap.

Looks like it has had spots on at some time or some such. Big red cable on left.

I was thinking that could be a connection for a water heater, which I guessed could be the black cylinder if the car had been used in very cold regions.

Those red plastic switched on the dash do nothing - they are just for fun.

Looks like it may have had an alarm (or such like) at some point and some groovy hi-fi but otherwise the electrics look standard.

Get it on the road and if it ain't broke, don't fix it   :D

Looks like that might be an electric water pump wired in under the bonnet, presumably so you can run the heater with the engine off, or possibly part of an engine preheater system??? (A very German thing if it's to reduce emissions and save fuel)

As it has a heated manifold, is the tap to isolate it, hard to see where it's tee'd of to if it doesn't do a U turn towards the manifold.

Batteries soon die if they're left flat, so if you don't know its history...

The most I can figure is the 1st red switch is dash lights. 2nd is headlights but the 1st has to be on to work. 3rd is the grill lights. And 4th I believe is to the rear glass defroster

Will it be an issue to rip that out of there? I doubt I will need being that I'll be close to Florida
