hi,
just surfin for sale section and came across a link to a turbo engine on ebay. the description said " came across the engine by accident thinking it was a MG Metro 1275 engine but when i checked the engine code and saw the oil drain"

i know engine codes are different but whats different about the oil drain?
just asking cus the engine i got doesn't have an engine number and the guy i bought it off didn't know where it came from! it looks like an mg with the slanted rocker cover but you can easily change a cover so i just don't know!!
piccys would be handy too!!!

"oil drain"

The oil drain on turbo engines is on the right hand side (manifold side) and is in the same position as the fuel pump on others. It's basically an appx 1inch tube where the oil drops back in having passed through the turbocharger.

the turbo head has valves with different diameter stems. take off the rocker and have a look. if theyre all the same, its not a turbo head. if the exhaust valve stems are thicker, its a turbo head

thanks but that doesn't realy help, i need to identify what engine i have without an engine number!
the previous owner has ground off the number on the engine plate and painted over the top and removed both the vin plate and commision number(but i know the engine is not the original as he told me).

If your engine is of questionable origin, unfortunately you'll need to strip it and identify such components as the cam, pistons and valves.
