Hey all,

My names Jamie, and im 17 in January.. Im Hopeing to be getting a mini in the next few weeks, to to as a small first car project, and would mainly be looking at getting some nice deep wheels, flared arches, and an exhaust system. Do any of you professionals know if this would kill my insurance too much? As the only other option for a car would be a 1.5 diesil saxo on an R plate.. please halp me to prevent this from happening! haha

mate to keep your insurance down keep it as standard, with every modification, or most anyway, your premium will go up..

so start standard and modify slowly as you go

Ok, thanks dude, But could you rekomend something that could make it sound a tad less..put put put..and more growl? And what deep rims would you recomend?

Im sorry that this sounds as though i have ignored youre advice, but i can go to £1600 on my insurance, as that is what a 1.5 saxo would cost me.. and is what my mum wants me to get haha!

Welcome to TMF! I know a mini near me thats just had £700 spent on it doing all the bits that wear, and had about £2000 spent over a couple of years, and its only £900. The bargains are out there, just takes a while to find them. Insurance wise - I am insured as a named driver on my dads policy, fully comp. I pay all of it, and it comes to about £400. You dont get no claims, but at that price, I'm not really bothered!

who you get that quote with because im 17 in about 2 weeks and looking for insruance and all the quotes are coming up at around £2100. This is on a 1275 cooper by the way.

Buy a 998cc mini (commonly known as mini 1000, mini city, mini mayfair, etc etc) that will keep your insurance down, then buy a nice set of standard size alloys so you do not have to modify the bodywork for clearance. once you have done that drive it for a year and then start making further mods once you have a years NCB under your belt! the first year is always the worst for insurance, buy within your means and you'll be fine!

Hello and Welcome to TMF! Another person unable to drive yet woohoo! Any idea of what type of Mini you want? 998, 1275? 998's are probably best sice its low to insure (thats why Ive got one)

Ive been told a few ones, but does anybody know of 13x7 DEEP DEEP dish rims to fit a mini pickup, as ive found a pickup for £100 that wants a littl tlc

i have 13 X7 deep dish superlites on rusty (chromed) but may change them for 13 X 8 alley cats.... you need to modify the body though, and use spacer drums and spats/arches. all this will push premiums through the roof..

I'm 27, own 2 other vehicles, all insured by me, the mini policy had 6 years no claims and some people wanted up to £1500 to insure the car ( i shopped around and got it for £170)
