right my blue mini run around or trev as i know him. is in a bit of trouble. the front gear box to subframe engine steady has sheered off and i notice it has benn welded back together bofore. now can i but a replace ment braket for the gear box?? as it seems ok on the subframe. also i changed the oil on trev the other day and i couldnt get the sump plug out because this wqas in the way soi took the oil filter off and turned the engine on till no oil came out anymore. however i have now put a little too much oil in and i am not taking the oil filter off again as i am lazy. is it ok to just leave it just over max on the dipstick??

In terms of oil levels, I think I'm right in saying they allow for a little overfilling, so if it's just a couple of mm over the max then you should be ok. But too much oil and it starts seeping into places it's not supposed to be. I guess you'll know if you really have put too much in because thing will start going wrong! Personally I wouldn't worry about it too much, sounds like the gearbox bracket is a bit more important at the moment!!

You ran? the engine till no oil came out the oil filter housing with the filter removed?????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yeah i did!!!!!!!!????????? why what have i done? i thought some one might say that was a disaterous thing to do but hey the oil is now clean and it gets me from a to b. as i said its just the run around the red ones my baby and gets alot more time spent on it. but to be fair is more unreliable than trev. (tis always the way).

Mate, seriously. You need to stop and think long and hard before you do anything from this point onwards. Read the haynes book from cover to cover and then read it again. Running the engine with the filter off to drail the oil will most certainly have caused at least some damage to the crank and its bearings. No oil will have been getting to these parts what so ever. I dont care that it was only idling. It is a careless and stupid thing to do. you could have easily scrapped your engine and at the very least, shortened its life.

OMG you didnt!!!!! I have just finished rebuilding my 1275 mg engine. there are bits in there that need oil all the time. you just cant run an engine with no oil its stupid.. it will be damaged in some way. big end shells, cam bearings. all very delicate bits of kit. hope you like engine rebuilds or have an endless supply of them because thats what you are going to need if you keep doing this.
