OK,so this is not really related to minis, mainly a lot of newer cars which seems to be the trend.
I understand a number plate is not the best looking thing to go on front/rear of the car with 2 different background colours to boot, but its law..blah blah.

So what is it with this new trend of owners taking the front plate off and wedging it inside the dash in the windscreen?
On brand new cars it looks ****,as if they just repaired a cat c car,or is it for avoiding cameras or when they do a hit and run.!

Rant over.

Not really seen this yet.  Obviously hasn't made it this far North.

Can't see it being that effective from a speed camera perspective as a lot of those work on the rear (unless they're doing it there too).

It's not really a new trend. Number plate on the dash & parcel shelf was a top Max Power mod.

It's not legal for sure. Noticed it's always the front plate as it must give it cleaner lines.... O_O and considering most of the cars I have seen are all the top sports cars of choice...Rs4's ,BMW msport, etc.

Coppers can give a 7 day rectification notice, but eating there doughnuts is probably more important to stopping anyone.

We're going all American I think!

Its not a new trend, but its definitely becoming more regular - mostly among the younger "scene" drivers (although I'm sure there are older guys too) - flaming annoys me (grumpy old git) as nothing seems to be done about it and I regularly see speeders through 20 mph residential areas gunning it like complete morons and my old eyes cant focus fast enough on a rear plate zooming off!!

The other issue is, if the plate isn't secured in the front windscreen it could cause injury during a collision

I don't see the need to get worked up over it, there are people driving around with worn tyres and brakes for example that are the real concern. It's purely a styling choice and the subject of opinion, nothing more, number plates are ugly so understandably people relocate them to clean up the front of the car. The legality is another story as I've been told by one copper that as long as it facing forwards it's legal, but by another that it needs to be at the most far forward part of a car. Either way, there are other things to worry about on the roads in my opinion.

Round here it serves as an early warning system in my mirror to avoid ******* drivers. Works well as they smoke past me in the default crappy remapped diesel Cupra
