hi, ive started to rebuild my 1275 engine for my 1275 gt.
I have stripped it to a bore block and have just brought a new cam, pistons etc.
i have also changed all the big end etc but the only problem i have is
The engine has never been in the car (i got the car without a eng) and the cam box i said that i have to keep the revs over 2500 rpm

well this mess the big ends and rings etc up when i first start it up. thats all ill need.

Thanks for looking
Thanks damian

and the cam box i said that i have to keep the revs over 2500 rpm

Just to clarify, did the information with the cam say you must set the idle to 2500, or is that where the power starts on the cam..

If it's the former you are going to be very unpopular if you're driving it on the road... I've been told off by the MOT man on numerous occasions as the idle on my 1330 is about 14-1500 rpm...

That's the power band you're looking at, the cam will obviously function below that... and idle should be as low as you can get it.... std minis shuld idle somewhere between 600 and 800,

JG - I think he his saying that the cam's instructions are that it should be bed it in at 2500rpm (usually for about 20mins) and whether that will cause an issue with the new main bearings etc.

yep you should run the engine at 2500rpm for the first 20mins of its life, to bed in the cam and followers using oil splash of the crank. after this, set to normal idle speed.

Thanks for the replys. will it be ok to do that rph with new big ends and con rod bearing in tho. thats the only thing i scared of. starting the engine let in run a 2500 rpm and then bang big end gone etc.
