Not at all. But a pig of a job unless radiator is out, due to limited access.

The plastic pinion is extremely simple but you need a new gasket. It just comes out in the obvious way after removing 1 small bolt. It is normal to change its bearing and oil seal too, all of which is the bit that the speedo cable screws on to.

You do need the correct gear for your model, according to final drive ratio.

The internal worm gear is not very much harder but involves draining the oil and removing the mount and gearbox end extension. It usually does not need to be replaced unless the gearing is being changed. It is steel and usually shows negligible wear, running against a nylon pinion. I would leave it.
