As description really, when removing the stock sensor to replace with one that feeds my dial some of the engine casing around the thread collapsed. Does this mean I have a large red paperweight or is their a trick to fixing.
Worst case I plug it with liquid metal and have no sensor....not ideal to say the least....
Any advise appreciated

A pic would really help....it depends on how much material was lost.

thats not good, its been over tightened at some point and cracked the casting I think,

I would look at how much depth is left and, see if yiu can tap it deeper and then plug it permantly ( being carful not to restrict the oilway in the block) and then add the sensors you want to the oil filter housing.

Cheers Mini 13, yep that's exactly what someones done given the effort it took to undo the old sensor.....not a happy bunny and that's putting it mildly.

So I can take an oil pressure reading by mounting sensor in oil filter housing??

I think the filters adapters are designed more for oil temps. I guess it is better than nothing!

Being cast iron it's not going to be easy to make a permanent fix .. it can be done, but is it worth the cost and effort to find somewhere?

One suggestion I've had from a gent who is into classics is to fit the pressure switch with Loctite 55 and see if it leaks.

Worst case scenario you ll Have to weld a drilled stub on it.

Yes, from between the Oil Filter Head and the Block.

I think your biggest headache though will be plugging up the Block somehow. I'd also suggest pulling the engine, stripping it to clean the Oil Galleries, you really can't be sure if anything has gone in there and it will damage the bearings.

Two concerns I have, 1. I don't really want to run the engine without an oil pressure sensor and 2. The thought of lifting engine out again and stripping it down is the last thing I need but if that's the only way I can check for metal traces inside then so be it. I was very careful once I knew the block had split and would like to think the only direction the bits went was out!
All in all very very peed off

Is or safe to run the car just for a short time (to check everything works...) with sensor out?

I'll make a HUGE mess and in very short time if you try that.  If you do do it can you post a video or photo?

And No. don't run it as it will have next to No Oil Pressure.
