Whenever you buy a used engine, especially one with parts that increase the power/torque from standard, expect and budget for a re-build.

Am going to look at a couple of standard 1275 engines tomorrow and have found a local engineering firm who are going to bore it out to 1380 for me and carry out all the necessary machining and prep on the block/head/crank... The chap has lots of experience with a series engines and has come highly recommended. Has suggested going with Kent 276 cam or Swiftune Sw5, power max or Omega Pistons, dry deck kit for better water flow, centre main strap kit, steel flywheel.. His dad and him have both been into racing and building minis for years, sounds like he knows his stuff so hopefully pickup a good donor engine and we'll go from there..

Don't bother going to 1380 ... Just go up one bore size if the engine needs it. 1293 is +20thou, 1310 +40 and 1330 is +60 and after that you are into offset bores and £££s. There isn't a great power difference either.

Good luck with getting a decent motor, by the way who are you using for the machining?
PM if you don't want to post up - just interested.

Slightly OT, sorry for this!

If the block is ever intended to be off-set bored, which after 0.060" is really a very good idea, it really needs to be done so from about the second oversize, if the stars align, however, preferably, from the first.

But, I agree completely, that for street use, and for that matter, most competition purposes, there's little point going over 0.060".

Cheers "FlyingScot" ... Getting work done by a chap called Jim @ Newmarket Engineering in Stirling, comes highly recommended..
Hopefully at least one of these engines I'm going to see will be a goodun..
