I am trying remove the engine from my mini but as I have never done this before on a car (only bikes) I am a bit stumped.
How do I remove the gear thingy? seems like there is a little pin in the middle do I just bang it out?

Also how on earth do you remove the axles? they have some rubber coverf over them that I can't get off Is there a special way if doing it or am I being too nice to them?

Any help would be great!

That pin is a roll pin and the haynes politely says you should 'drift' it out with a drift pin (i think that's what it's called, might be a punch). so yeah just whack it out. Try putting it into different gears to get at both pins and try to watch where they go when they fly out!

Are you using a Haynes manual?

Got a hayne manual but it didn't seem that clear maybe I was reading the wrong bit.
Just didn't want to whack it out without asking as I have a habit of breaking stuff

put the lever towards but not in reverse and it should be easier to get it out.

tyhink you need a 4mm punch/drift. i used a knackered drill bit the right size.

do you mean the drive shafts on the front??

I rocked mine out, completely disconnected the engine from the car but stil had it in the engine bay,... undid the CV joints (what you call the rubby thingies) by undoiung the cable tie or bit of wire holding them on, and then rocked the engine sideways, one pops out, other way, the the pops out.
