hey guys odd one for u, running a HS4 carb on my 998, but my problem is iv just fitted my maniflow single box system and the idle is majorly high! i mean almost screaming high! iv tried sotrting the mixture out and its still runnig fast, also it sounds really chopper sounding you know really raggady?
got a pipercross come filter on there now, that seemed to help a bit, but its still running fast, the only other thing i can think of is a leak on the carb to inlet gasket (thanks pikey7 for pointing that out) any other idears?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? im stumped?!?! :w00t:

dude, you need a different needle in your carb now surely, you'll be running lean with a new box and cone filter so you'll need a differnt needle to let more fuel thorugh. try putting the old filter back on and see what happens. best thing to do would be to put it all back as it was. then a you add stuff,. try the engine, as soon as it starts playing up again, you know what's causing it.

sounds a bit like fuel starvation as the engine is trying hard to get fuel, and so the revs shoot up, try pulling the choke out and see if it calms it down a bit.

also, spraying WD40 over tall the joints when the engine is running will show up air leaks with bubbles. fi you're not sure if it's bubbling get someone to wang a rag over the exhaust end as it forces more air out if there is a leak.

dunno dude, but you're basically running a stage 1 kit now i guess.

have look on suppliers websites and see what needles come with the stage 1 kits.

alternatively try giving Somerford minis a call, they've always bee very very helpful to me over the phone, and reaaaaally know their stuff.

P.S.> which remind me.... have you done the pimp dash and headlining yet buddy?

I think (can't emphasise the 'think' enough) I've got an AAU needle with my maniflow setup which came with my kit, but even that couldn't have been perfect as the guy who set mine up on the rollers whipped it out and filed it to gain best performance...

No you're quite right! AAU is the standard needle that 'generally' come with stage one kits,

but of course, no needle is PERFECT for a car without filing it slightly, but it shuold do the trick well enough.

Pip, perhaps purchase a needle for you carb, fit it and then get your car down a mini friendly rolling road. that'll put the smile bakc ony our face!

AAU should sort it out well enough for you to have a driveable car.

i seem to remember something on minispares about AAU and AAM. AAU was for the standard airbox with k&n, AAM was for the same but with the airbox drilled. i use an AAA on mine. and thats not right.

i'd say bust out winsu and compare the needles. look for the one thats thinner at idle, will make it richer.

then again im just babbling, probably best to ignore me =D
