Hello all,

Seems mighty friendly here.

Yesterday, I took delivery of my first Mini. It's a 63 and is what could be described as a project. I don't think it's been on the road for a good few years. The guy I got it off has had a go at fixing it up, but to be frank, my 4 year old daughter could do better. I'll take some pictures. The welds were done with MIG, but without shielding gas! (No it wasn't the gasless wire!) It seems like he's lost and damaged a few bits too. I only paid £100 for it, so I knew what I was getting into.

There are one of two puzzles so far. Perhaps someone knows?
Where are the screen washers?
The clutch pedal is solid - no movement. Looks like there is fluid at the end of the slave cylinder. Siezed cylinder?
I've read that the car should be positive earth, but I know that folks convert to neg earth. How do I know if this has been done? There is no battery (or tray!) at the moment.

I'm quite looking forward to getting stuck into this. My previous resto projects have all been aircooled vw's, so I'm no stranger to a tinworm infestation.

Welcome to the forum and good luck with the project. Just stick the pix on with your posting, either from your pc with the "browse" and "add this attachment" buttons at the bottom of the posting window or from a host like photobucket with the little tree (insert image) button. Don't make them too big!

Good start to getting into mini's with a rot box! Its very friendly here, everyone is welcomed instantly (as i was!)

You do realise you can never just own one mini though!!

sounds like you're gonna be doing a full nut and bolt rebuild due to the condition of the car, in which case, just strip it back and work on getting the body repaired and painted. Then when it comes to fitting parts you'll find out what works and what doesn't.

Also you'll find there's a lot of stuff on minis, and once you start stripping, you'll have no room to work!! so maybe buying new parts right away wouldn't be the best option and it may add to the clutter lol!

Anyway, siezed cylinder is a very common problem on a mini of this age having not been used for a few years, in which case, I would just replace it with a new one.
