Hi atm got engine out of mini and cleaning up engine and changing gaskets but I need to know if I have the tappet covers the right way round before fitting the problem I have is I thought the one with pipe sticking out goes upwards but I can not get my manifold to fit then. So does it go pipe facing down on the left hand side looking at engine from the back? Also does this pipe attach to anything? Thanks tom

Sometimes, you need to cut, twist and braze the Oil Separator back on to change the angle of it.

How come it won't fit now after its the original one to the engine? It will fit when pointing down and manifold there but if I want to put the pipe facing up it won't fit with manifold? Plus mowog writing is upside down? Is there a possibility I have the wrong plate for the engine?

If it is a mk1  the tappet cover with the breather on goes on the radiator side of engine, the breather points down, there is no room for it to point up, it does not attach to anything

Your cover is convex so supposedly needs cork gaskets. The concave type need rubber gaskets. But it might be interesting to compare them side by side. The rubber gaskets work better, the cork often has minor leakage.
