Hi all,

I'm in the process of refitting the rear subframe and my new poly bushes seem too tall? The trunnion can move by 1/4'' from side to side. I don't want the whole subframe to move in corners, do I?

Do I need to cut the bush? Am I crazy?

Thanks

Have you tightend the nut?

When I tighten the nut it compresses and the trunnion doesn't move by hand, but I'm worried I will move on the car. What's the torque anyway of that nut?

Greased the bush? Powerflex bushes normally come with a special bush grease... potentially the compression you need will occur in the trunion rather than spewing over the edges once friction is overcome.

I don't have grease. I suppose I'm meant to put the subframe on the car, then tighten the nuts until it doesn't move?

Use some silicon grease on it. Odd as Powerflex bushes usually come with a small satchet of grease .. maybe Brexit is causing them to cut back on something!

They would not need to supply grease because these bushes do not rotate. They are only providing some small amount of compliance to the rear end to reduce noise and the stresses caused by bumps, as well as take up tolerances between body's he'll and subframe.

By the way, it is SILICONE grease. The E is very important, however the majority of so-called professional journalists (even in the Times and Torygraph, and frequently in the Daily Wail) get it wrong, so it is hardly surprising that the error spreads among the general public too. But the innards of your computer or iFad are based on SILICON chips without the E, although some of them may be encapsulated in SILICONE resin, with the E. The E denotes an organic compound with silicon replacing some or all of the normal carbon atoms. No E means that the raw element, usually with minute quantities of dopants to form the transistors etc, is being referred to.

Your wife/girlfriend (if any) does not need a SILICON transplant. The material is very hard and brittle!

If only the useless journalists would get things like that right, and disseminate accurate knowledge....

And not one person has mentioned you've actually fitted them the wrong way round...
