Authentic font, takes me back to punching the holes in the plate for the separate letters to be clipped on.

Legal on any car. Just not silver and black as that is age restricted.

Silver and Black plates are now permitted on a rolling forward date in line with the Historic Vehicle Tax exemption.

This may or may not be true, the debate rages on and I'm not sure myself which is correct.
I think they look crap on anything from about 1971 onwards anyway.

I read that as tax exemption rolls forwards but the cut off date for black and silver plates does not. That has to be before 01.01.75 regardless.

As others have said Jan 1973 is no longer the cut off date!.......from DVLA website below:-
Vehicles that can display black and silver plates
Since April 2015 vehicles manufactured before 1 January 1975 can display the older style plates. You must:
- have applied to DVLA, and
- be registered within the ‘historic vehicles’ tax class.
This allows your vehicle to retain its authenticity and be in keeping with its age.
Vehicles constructed 40 or more years ago are exempt from vehicle tax.
The 40 year exemption date rolls forward automatically each year on 1 April.

Tippers Classic & Vintage Numberplates:-
"The DVLA has confirmed in INF104 that all vehicles registered as Historic Vehicles for taxation purpose can now use our classic plates, this is now on a rolling 40 years coming into effect each April 1st. This means we are now allowed to supply black and silver/white plates for vehicles up to manufactured up to 1976."
http://www.tippersvintageplates.co.uk/
"Prior to 2001 only a vehicle first registered before 1 Jan 1973 could display black and silver registration plates.
From 2001 until 2015 there was an extension which allowed a vehicle built prior to 1/1/1973 but not registered until after this date also to display black and silver plates.
From April 2015, a vehicle which is taxed as an Historic Vehicle but which was built after 1/1/1973 is also allowed to display black and silver number plates (so the rolling 40-year cut-off now applies to such vehicles).
The change came about because of a provision in the Finance Bill 2014 and subsequent Finance Acts which altered the Historic Vehicle class cut-off year from 1973 firstly to 1974 and later to a rolling forty years. The wording of the legislation had the (probably completely unintended) effect of linking the HV tax class to permission to display black and silver plates."
http://hmvf.co.uk/fo...7156#post457156
"It's the definition of an exempt vehicle which defines which type of plate it can display. Since the definition is changed by the Finance Act each year, the age of the vehicle has started to roll forward.
S18 of http://www.legislati...1/561/pdfs/u... is the critical one as it changes which parts of Schedule 2 apply. Exempt vehicles may display any of the plate types described in Schedule 2."

Where did you get yours from Batmini? They look smart.
Did they come with a fitting frame so you don't have to drill the plate?
