Which side of the carb is your float chamber on? There are 'LH' and 'RH' versions of the HS4.

 

when looking from the front its on the left side (aka the clutch side)

If the HS4 float chamber is on the clutch side then you may get fuel starvation when doing tight left hand turns.

As a side note, I did some more reading on this forum and came across someone who had a similar problem. I rotated the float bowl cover so the fuel inlet is facing the front of the car and so far it has fixed the problem. It's weird to me because now the float is hinged at the side and not the back, so you would think it would be more sensitive to side loads but I guess not
