Rattling Noise On Front Suspension

Best Answer tiger99 , 02 December 2016 - 07:24 PM

That is a very good idea! There are other techniques too. In certain cases the corners of nut heads can be drilled to use aircraft style lockwire, which as well as locking also gives an indication of movement. Then there are the plastic pointers widely used on HGV and bus/coach wheel nuts.

I have generally used a painted mark on the hub casting and ball joint dome nut to indicate during assembly that the nut was really going to the same place each time while adjusting the shimming. There are etch marker pens which are good for that.

Having all vital nuts and bolts marked to ensure that they have been tightened and have not moved since adds a touch of professionalism to the job and may make the car slightly more valuable in the eyes of a discerning buyer. Go to the full post

For safety reasons and control I am using the red paint which calls "Bolt and Nut safety paint". Here you easily see if a nut or bolt has moved, then the paint is cracked. Works wonderful.
