Hi there!

I recently bought some LED headlights (usually an aftermarket fit for Jeep Wranglers) for the mini, however I found that the lights don't seem to dip down far enough? I've adjusted them as far down as possible, any further and the headlamp ring cannot fit on.
Has anyone else had this issue?
I've cut out bits from the back of the bucket so the lights fit well into the bucket, but still don't seem to dip far enough.

Thanks in advance! :) (can't seem to find any other posts with this issue)

Subject I have been working on now for several months and using LEDs in the standard reflector the results are as follows

The lights are much brighter

The dip beam pattern is no where near as good as Halogen Bulbs which I believe is the LED is not focused correctly on the reflector

Ok now back to your question

Obviously the Jeep ones are a complete head light and the symptom you describe is lack of adjustment, obviously the Jeep bowls and adjustment screws are different, not sure what the answer is, if its the restriction of the screws prevents it being aimed up and refitting the chrome rings? Maybe a mod may allow more central adjustment to allow the chrome rings to fit. Not sure if the Jeep leds have a UK cut off for the dip beam for our MOT ? and if they are E Marked for use here?

The lights seem to be E marked, apart from that not sure how real they are really, I've seen other minis with these lights fitted so I was wondering maybe this problem is just unique to mine for some reason? Unless people are running them & blinding people?

The chrome rings won't fit on if I adjust it any further as the screws, and the sections of the bucket that hook onto the screws, foul on the ring.

These are the type I've got:

Are they dipped lhd, rhd, or central blinding motorbike type pattern? One of my concerns with these.

IIRC these are originally designed for the last edition defenders (abeit a genuine truck lite / jb speaker £500+ versions), and then these cheap ebay copy style ones appear.

Be interesting to see what LED chipset they have etc, seems abitit rubbish your having to modify your bowls so much to get them to fit. I know the defender ones are recommend to have an open back, so no bowl, to aid cooling of the led, as they reduce in output it they get too hot.

Ive seen those jeep ones in both styles on ebay, amazon and aliexpress.

Appear to be around 60 gbp on aliexpress. Chinese made so quality and e marking may not be legit etc.

It is almost impossible to use either LED or HID headlights legally on a Mini. Both types are required to have self-levelling and a wash system, and as far as I can tell so far, are type approved ONLY for their original vehicle.

Please do not use things that can get to into trouble with the law, and a criminal record, or dazzle other road users and potentially cause fatal accidents, possibly unknown to yourself.

I'm no longer sure about the validity of that statement.. unless it's written in the vehicle lighting and use regulations, but the MOT inspection manual states

Vehicles equipped with High Intensity Discharge (HID) or LED dipped beam headlamps may be fitted with headlamp washers and a suspension or headlamp self levelling system.

It no longer states they MUST be fitted.
