Too old for the Guessworks decoder.

Its just listed as a "1300 transverse type" - nothing special - similar engine spec to Austin/Morris 1300 and/or 1275GT.

I did try the guessworks decoder and couldn't work it out! The engine has the old style driveshaft joints.

Looks like it has some remnants of the old 'Gold Seal' replacement engine paint on the block?

Some of those got new engine numbers that didn't tally with anything and I've heard of things like MGBs ending up with Sherpa van engines and other similar things,ah the 70s lol.

right, it is not out of a mini. You can tell by the front plate.

I'm away right now, but can look at my records on my return.

ALL Gold and Silver Seal stuff had unique numbers.

12H740 is not a Goldseal engine code.

The front plate with engine mountings looks typical Austin/Morris 1300.

Rod change box with rubber couplings was a relatively short lived spec.
