from what i have been told you have to change the belts often on the belt drive kits

ok on a race engine but not a road car

no reason why you shuoldn't use the belt drive kits on a road car, i't's suprising how much quieter it makes the engine.

I heard they were delveloped becuase it eliminates the slight amount of chain stretch you get on chain drive, this can mess your timing up but very much doubt it would be noticeable, ( didn't explain that very well but you get the drift) so basically you have slightly 'tighter' engine... but I also heard that the belts can wear faster than you'd like them to.

And then of course the belt drive kit weighs much less than the chain drive so you might unleash a couple extra horses because of the decreased load on the engine ;D

anyone running one on here? could do with some 'experienced input on this one.'

When they first came out the service time for a belt was 6k miles, don't know if it's improved since...

If you want something a little more refined than a duplex, try the Kent High velocity chain ( or Silent Chain ), I've had one on my 1330 for years...

Think this is it on minispares http://www.minispare....aspx?pid=35145

Min-its have them for 95

6k isn't tooooooo bad i guess lol.... could be better though. i wonder if you can get uprated belts?

Is it true about the Belts actually stretching less than the chain drive by the way??? I can't see how it could be....

I have used belt drive on my 1380 road car for the last 5 years, an i cannot fault it.

To answer a few questions the belt wont stretch, its the same as any other cambelt only much smaller, similar in size to the small secondary top belt in vw engines. However there is no tensioner.

You cannot get uprated belts, in fact the only belts i can get hold of all have the words 'made in china' written on them, and no makers stamp. I used one of these for the last year without a problem, but i personally don't like it. I read somewhere that the change interval is 20 000 miles, i think it was in the minispares website. will have to double check.

That was what I heard of.... the belt drive requires frequent replacement.

I am using duplex timing chain. Frankly speaking, the noise is not noticable.... given the noise of the LCB / exhaust / straight cut gears....
