fitted tach but dnt work properly

green wire to negative of coil
red to ignition live
oraange to lights
two blacks to earth
and . . . as soon as u turn ingition on, not even starting her up the pointer flies round to 8000RPM
any ideas about what wrong?

loads of people have them though . . and they all seem to work in everyone elses car
I should add that mine was working when it was fitted by the original owner (though I never saw it), further evidence that mine is a circuit board problem. I've given up on it to be honest, will be getting a new one when i can be bothered to go on ebay.

Thats a Coil Pack, not a coil!!!
a coil pack is what im using for the Distributorless ignition system.
They are made for standard coil systems.

@Ed4RAN: Do the very last minis (2000MY) use coil pack ignition (wasted spark)? Just out of interest.

They are made for standard coil systems.
In respect of the counter which immediately goes to 8K - I'm 99% sure the gauge is in fact faulty. There's actually quite a bit of electronics inside between the green pulse wire and the pointer!
