Anyone know what Pound they are?

Got them fitted with a 286 cam but getting valve float so not sure if it's valve springs or incorrect fitted length..

to be honest not valve spring numbers I recognize.

I believe they are the outer spring of the VS2 double spring set.

The VS2s should be fine on a 286

Yes they are VS2s and recommended by Kent with a 286 cam. Only know as I have a set installed also using a 286 cam with 1.5 ratio rockers and don't have any problems.

The Minispares valve springs come with comprehensive instruction leaflet, this gives the maximum recommended installed height for the valve springs. If they are above recommended height then you need to use shims under the valve spring to get correct poundage.

 

Do the Kent valve springs not come with similar instructions?

Looks like the recommended installed heights for Kent VS2 (36mm) and Minispares C-AEA526 (1.42 inch = 36.07mm) valve springs are almost identical.

I use a digital vernier caliper, reads to 0.01mm

 

To hold the valve cap up either use the inner spring, or one of the rocker shaft springs also works and is easier to fit for measurements.

If any of the valves have been replaced you may find installed spring heights for the inlet and exhaust valves are different, even if all of the valve stem tips are all at exactly same height.

 

A reason for this variation can be the distance of the collet retaining groove from valve tip can vary. On one head I had a difference of 1.5mm between inlet and exhaust installed spring heights because of this .

Interesting they are all within 0.5mm of 36mm I can't see that causing insufficient spring compression..

Surely I shouldn't get valve float at 5000rpm with the correct springs in..

Sorry to sound stupid but what do you mean by valve float?
