hi all,

I have this project in the garage and consider to go k series with the PG1 gearbox as I want to keep the bulkhead modifications to a minimum.
I would like to run 10" wheels and consider the plain Allspeed frame (unless someone has a better suggestion, allowing to keep the Mini suspension and track width). I'll get a 1.8 k-series equipped donor car to get the electrics sorted (relatively) easily.

Now the question I have:

I read that certain models of PG1 gearbox are already geared for 13" wheels.
How easy is it, or better, what do i need to make it work on 10" wheels? Are conversion final drives readily availabe? And if so, where?

thanks for reading and thanks for your help. :)

I'm doing the same conversion atm, k series, pg1, 10" wheels. Have you joined 16vminiclub? If not, I would as theres alot of info on there

There are no pg1 boxes that are geared for 13" wheels (You may be thinking of the metro r65 box?), but there are pg1 boxes that will work with 13" wheels.

The best 'ready to use' box is the C6 number box. Its got 3.9 f.d. and will give you about 3700rpm at 70, top end about 140 (on paper). C6 boxes are rather cheap and plentiful.

The best setup for 10's (or so I'm told, I've not driven mine yet!) would be a C7 box, but you have to build it yourself, from rather rare parts! It requires a freelander diesel 3.6 f.d (this has u spec bearings), but then you need a T series casing for the larger bearings, a 'C' gearset, and also a u spec 5th gear as the freelander one would be too tall and non u spec ones dont fit, and u spec 5th's are like hens teeth
