Hi all bit of a random question, but does anyone out there have any good ideas for fixing show plates over your actual plates. i.e you pull up at a show and just want to put a plate over your own.

Does anyone have some good ideas, I mean there is Velcro, and I was thinking of some sort of bracket... pics, links and help invited :)

cheers

If your show plates are metal use magnets.

On my mx5 I've got the show plate bolted to the car, on some m6 studs, then slip my normal plate over the top, held by wing nuts. Get to a show, 2 wing nuts, take the normal plate off, instant show plate. Great for a bit of streeto too 😙🎶

There's a tiny risk someone official might take objection to you putting sticky out bits, like screw threads, on your car where there shouldn't be any.

Magnets sound good, especially if your proper plate is stuck on.

You could use some form of captive nut, if they're screwed on, to make swaps easier.

An under bumper front plate could just be hooked on with made up brackets, or elastic straps.

You could centre drill the screws for smaller screws, or pins - or replace with rivnuts.

I'd have thought very few show plates would be steel, not likely ali or plastic.....

use number plate holders.

for those that are not aware here are some from the VW scene. can be got blank or personalized.

just fit your normal plates and swap out for the show ones.

simples.

Wow, talk about over thinking a problem !!!
Get down to a local hardware store, find some suitable hooks and glue them on to your show plate level with the top edge... no brainer

You'd need to be looking at 30s or 40s era plates to be magnetic!

I use a bolt also, but with dome headed nut on the end. Then I can just swap over when need be.
