Hi peeps,

Any idea what to test here? The car has not been started for a couple of months, all I did was replace the rear subframe\fuel filter. Battery is fine etc and it turns over but just no spark

Any help would really be great as I don't want to start changing parts for the sake of it - parts not cheap on a MPI!

Thanks

Isn't there a cut-out swith under the bonnet on injection Mini's? I'm sure it's situated to the rear/right hand side of the engine, so try giving that a push. I think it's concealed under a rubber button or something? :-

thats fuel cut off - as it states it cuts off the fuel - but this hsould go off just because the batterys been disconnected.

Have you checked the ignition fuses and the spark gaps? if its not that make sure the ignition coil pack is set up properly...can't think of anything else at the moment.

Checked the plug gaps and all the fuses. How do you test\set up the coil pack? The cable going into the bottom is definately connected securely

Do you think that if I get the RAC out they will diagnose this for me or will they just try tow me to the nearest garage?

In my experience the RAC will do their best to get you running and will charge you for any spares they supply on the spot. Assuming you're at home and have Home Start. Good luck!

this happened to me i would get the RAc to tow to to a garage as it could one or more from the below list.

1 - ECU
2 - crank sensor
3 - coil pack
4 - plugs
5 - plug leads
6 - relay above servo

but i would suggest getting an auto electrician to check the ecu first.

Cheers Teapot. I don't have homestart but luckily the mins at my mum and dads, took it there to do the rear subby as there's more room.

Minidev, I suspect the coil pack or ecu. I'll get an autoelectrician on it if need be but i'd rather get the RAC to see what they can do first

Thanks for the advice

Adam

Never had a problem with the RAC, the last one was when Jake's coil went on the ay back from MiniFest X in Blackpool. Arrived within 30 minutes and fitted a new coil that cost me £6 to buy from him! Used them for homestart a couple of times too, really good service!

Funny you should say coil ... I was thinking of this

But in view of what orangemin is going to say next, I'll get my coat :dontgetit:

If it was £6 i'd replace it today but unfortunately the coil pack for the MPI is about £80!!

I dont know anything about MPI's but i always read about the inertia cut off switch or something like that...doesnt it 'pop-out' in accidents etc cutting off fuel, maybe it could of cut-out if you were a bit over-zealous dropping the rear end back to the ground or anything like that. As i say, i don't know much but its always best to try the free and easy things first! :dontgetit:

That was the first thing I tried - once i'd retrieved the switch from under the wiper motor housing that is!
