Indeed, it maybe easier to secure it in the boot and make the battery connections safe.

If you do have a puncture you'll probably struggle to get ANY sort of jack under the car, with it being so low to the ground in the first place!

Thats a very good point but I am running standard ride height so I might stand a fighting chance. I'd rather have something and fail than nothing at all though.

I carry an electric scissor jack with me on long journeys, it works off the cig lighter, and is very easy to use... simply press a button for up or down... Rated at 1 1/2 tonnes, so easily lifts a Mini....

I've always found that scissor jacks become unstable as the car lifts and I've never found a bottle jack short enough to fit under a Mini subframe. I now carry a lightweight ally trolly jack and I've run a ratchet strap under the spare wheel and around the jack to stop it from sliding about . I've just had a look on machine mart and they are now the north side of £100, I recall paying around £65ish for mine 7 or 8 years ago.
