My post is only based on Mahle bearings as other manufacturers Racing bearings are likely to be made up differently.

They did say, in my situation with a tuned engine for road use, the standard bearing would be ok.

In the end I had no choice. My engine was line bored oversize and Racing bearings weren't available in the size I needed.

The king bearings website also has a lot of info for their different bearing materials https://www.kingbear...technical-info/

This was not a mini block but my Ford block on mini gearbox. They were line bored +15 thou.

"This was not a mini block but my Ford block on mini gearbox. They were line bored +15 thou."

Thank you for that information.

I thought that I might have found an answer to my difficulty.

I'd like to put a 1.75" Journal crank where a 45MM = 1,7715" crank used to be.

As Araldite might not stand the heat, it looks as though it is back to soldering .010" brass shim to the back of the shells.

What size is the crank journal and what size is the block housing diameter?

I was after some standard sized thrust washers with tangs, and after a few hours searching the king bearing catalogue, which has thousands of sizes, I found one that would fit. Worth a try.

(apologies this is more for DeadSquare and a bit off the OP's original question - although I think that's been answered)

Thank you for drawing my attention to that.  One of the routes to our Daughter, passes Witney.

Please may I apologise to the OP for jumping on a hijack, and now going off at another tangent.

Has anyone any experience of hard chroming main journals, as my other alternative is to increase the diameter by .0215" and bring it up to 45mm ?

I had the bore of some helical gears reduced in size by hard chroming, which I then re-ground to size.

Not sure if it will add as much as 0.012" a side.

One difference is I was then installing bearing cups so not actually running against the chrome, but I know it is done.

The thickness might be the issue and they will have to selectively plate the areas which can be a pain and time consuming.

Other option is thermal/metal spray transfer

I have and old eutectic kit in the garage but not used it in the last 30 years.

But, if you're going down the route of hard chrome or metal transfer it might well be cheaper to buy custom bearings the right size. Never done it so no idea of cost, or custom crank maybe.

I have had damaged crank tapers successfully metal sprayed.
