I have a set of 12 inch 'rally' style and the lacquer started peeling after 18 months, also seem to be a nightmare to change the tyres on, took them to 4 different independent tyre garages, the last of which ended up completely ruining them by trying to force a set of Yokos on

They're cheap - and in the case of my revo's non gen copies..or "revo style"..

Got a set of MWS minilites years ago wish I'd applied cans of lacquer to them on receipt as whatever was used seemed to be water soluble (ok I'm exaggerating but you get the ugly picture after a couple of winters)

Lesson learned my revo's from the now (it seems) JBW had remedial action applied immediately 10 coats of lacquer  before putting tyres on and touched up immediately they came back from fitting - still perfect - no complaints as you get what you pay for  and only a fiver a wheel has kept them as new....

I have a set of their D1 copies. Lacquer has deteriorated before they've been on the car. Shocking quality.

I can only speak from personal experience, and i would not buy them again, the wheels went on a project car and the lacquer lifted before the car even saw daylight let alone the road. It was also a nightmare when it came to fitting tyres. The problem is the rim has a square edge rather than beveled/rounded. I stuck them on the lathe and removed the edge, since then I've had no issues

Can only speak as I find -

JBW Dunlop D1's have been on my car for over a year and still mint - no problems with lacquer - but saying that its always garaged,  and I wheel wax them regularly.

I also have whats termed  "summer chrome" baby moon hubcaps on my VW camper which have lasted years but  I do wax and 3in1 oil them.

I live within sight of the sea and can sometimes smell the salt in the air...

Hope you are happy with whatever you end up with..

Best

Are you running discs or drums? wondering if these wheels will fit on my car without arch extensions like yours

I bought a set of 6x12 starmag II on their site before Christmas, they arrived safe n sound a couple of days later I decided to re lacquer them with some harder scratch resistant stuff before I mounted the tyres, but I must say I was pleased with the service and finish of the wheels

Had two sets of wheels from them, 12" Mambas and 10" OS4 Turbos, no problem with either. Odd set of people, quite abrupt but I don't buy wheels to make friends.

The company I work for produce 2/3 scale luxury electric cars for rich kids, and up until about a month ago we used JBW as a supplier for the wheels. We've had maybe 12 sets in the last couple years or so. We never get to see the wheels once the car has been shipped so I can't comment on lacquer peel (although I know it is still a common problem), but I think the most shocking thing is the casting quality. It really is poor, and even worse on the back of the spokes, you can just tell that they're made as cheaply as possible and are covered in imperfections. They also have dreadful customer service. Notoriously hard to get hold of, and always saying they have wheels in stock so we place an order, then revealing that they actually haven't had any for years when we phone up weeks later asking for our wheels. Half the time they either send the wrong wheels nuts, or no nuts at all, and once they even sent aluminium ones! That could have been rather dangerous if sent to someone who didn't notice the difference. Anyway, we now deal directly with Ultralite instead and they are by far superior in every way. Excellent quality wheels and excellent customer service. Wouldn't touch JBW with a barge pole.

Had a set of GBs off them, cant comment on laquer but they look excellent.

Also, i emailed them on one afternoon asking about stock and delivery as i wanted while i was on my days off, he emailed straight back, saying if i bought that day they would be shipped tomorrow and delivered the day after and they were.

Good service IMO
