If you move the leads round two positions in the cap they will be long enough as they will be in the same position as your original cap.

No they won't, they'll be two positions round!

Take the leads off then and start again then. The lead bottom left going to cylinder 1 then, working round the cap anti-clockwise, the next one to cyl 3, then 4 and then 2

Yep that's correct - and that will move them round 2 positions from where they are on the new dizzy.

Pictures... 20170413_182335_zpsdqk8nvvr.jpg Timing marks, indicating that No1 is at TDC  20170413_182413_zpseicc4wtl.jpg This is the old distributor with the rotor arm pointing to No1 lead, as expected. 20170413_182612_zps8ddpzqtu.jpg And this is the new electronic dizzy, which will only engage with the drive with the rotor arm pointing 180deg out.  My leads look to be in the right position (with No1 at 'top-right') and are not long enough to move round two positions. Not sure I want to fiddle with the new dizzy, so how do I move the distributor drive?  And how/why would it be like this?

Looks like the drive dog was fitted 180 out.

Take the drive dog off and refit.
