Mine didn't have any groove, so I just made one using a ball shaped cutter on my dremel grinder. Didn't take much effort to mill a shallow groove. Slapped on the o-ring and it all fits nice and snug now.

How does that seal when the hole is conical ?

All I know is the dipstick now pops into place with a light push and stays put while engine is running. Previously it would flop and jump around from crank case pressure pulses. Been great for 1.5 yrs with the o-ring in place.

EDIT: To be clear the groove is milled in the plastic of the dip stick, not the casing! Just made it deep enough so the o-ring sits very slightly proud of the plastic area...makes a good fit into casing.

I've just done similar, cut a groove with a hacksaw blade, pushed an o-ring on and it seems to be a nice tight fit now.
Cheers for the suggestion
