Don't think one should overlook dampers. I had spax shocks, adjusted quite hard (and broken adjusters), the difference in comfort with my kyb gas a justs is huge.

1978 Mini 1000

Hi.

My mini is extremely bumpy, so bumpy that if you sit in the passenger seat with a suitcase on your lap, the suitcase jumps. This happens on completely flat roads.

It is most prominent when driving slowly, sort of evens out at higher speeds.

It feels like it is just on one side, but moving the wheel around didn't seem to help much.

I have checked the tyre pressure, and it is fine.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

You don't say whether the car is on rubber cones or the metal springs that were designed to replace the rubber?  I've just replaced Minitastic springs for rubber cones; the difference is huge, much plusher.

To the OP and anyone else out there this goes to show that springs on a mini are not right!  They would have fitted them at the factory stage if they were!

I've finally got round to ordering some Red Dot's from Minispares, just been delivered so may have a chance to fit them this weekend, along with new ball joints...

Plus finishing off the Evacusump engine breathing system...

Glad to hear that yours is riding much better!  Which rubber (fnar fnar) did you go for in the end?

Why did you fit red dot cones? Why did you fit the evacu breathing? They would have fitted them at the Factory if they were any good! ;) ;) ;)

Good point Dusky!  ;-)

I probably should have said the factory had the option of running springs but the rubber suspension was developed to overcome the shortcomings of running such a small spring size that the mini would require.

Minispares Red Spot, because they are of the same/similar type that were developed for the Innocetti Mini's and after driving one with them on I just found them to be (pardon the pun) spot on!  Much much better than the Mini Delta fast road springs that I'm running at the mo.

Evacusump, well it was developed by David Vizard and has a whole host of benefits, my brother converted to it too and it works a treat!  Or..... It sucks!
