Interesting. Are you saying that the WHEELS (as opposed to tyres) are adding to the unsprung mass? So much for alloys. As pointless as they are on my modern daily driver, where to get just about acceptable fatigue life they end up being heavier than steels.

Give me 10 inch steels on a Mini any day!

Wheels & tyres.  I expect a 6x13 wheel and tyre combo is significantly heavier than the previous 4.5x12

Yes the ERA had 13" wheels, but that was Rover development.

So in theory if you didn't have a Sportspack and had smaller than 12" wheels you would still benefit from a Sportspack subframe due to them offering more stability?

No, it does not add stability. That is better with 10" wheels anyway. You would not gain any tangible benefit unless you were loading it to the point where it was likely to break.

The only benefit, and it may be an important one, depending on your intentions and aspirations, is that it would leave the way open to upgrade the wheels in the future.

Think I'm fairly set on getting the Sportspack frame now.

Any recommendations on other parts to look at replacing whilst the subframe is being changed as 'm going to start making a shopping list up. Radius arms? Brake lines?
