This is my ROAD rally bmw e36, It has ACW plastics windows in the rear, didnt want to do the fronts as getting the clipboard out of a post box is not easy for the nav. They are Lexan D, and are perfectly legal to use on the road, the only place you cant use them is on the front screen. My mate has a race car and his front screen is plastic, but it dosnt need a mot.

I cant use non e marked tyres on the car, the scruteneers check everything to be road legal....

I would recomend ACW as this is the second set ive had from them and they are really good...

To add, I've got plastic sliding windows in my fronts, mega weight saving over glass!

How about going Ozzie / Innocenti style with a quarter-light? You'd be able to support you wind down window better.

Sorry folks, I did get this one wrong. It is TINTED glass or perspex that is specifically not allowed in front of or alongside the driver.

You can still have perspex alongside the driver and tinted windows are legal all around, where are you getting this info?

You can't have grey or bronze tint front side windows made of Lexan apparently, anyone know why?

The rules about tinted glass are well documented in lots of places. The limiting factor is the amount of light transmission. An extremely light tint is acceptable, but the majority are not, except behind the driver as I said.

http://www.ukmotoris...ted windows.asp Transmission must be at least 70% before 1st April 1985, 75% after that, and that corresponds to a very light tint. The human eye responds logarithmically and will scarcely notice 25% light loss.

DVSA do spot checks!

So what you've stated here is wrong then? Tinted glass is acceptable if tinted to the allowable amount for the age of the vehicle, a tint is exactly that, a tint, if it wasn't a percentage tint it wouldn't be see through and if it was in the rear windows it would be called a van!

TINTED front glass is NOT specifically not allowed at all.

I said LIGHTLY TINTED. 75% transmission means 25%  TOTAL for reflection and absorption, and as you always lose at least 5% to reflection, it leaves, at most, 20% for absorption, which is far, far lighter than anything sold as tinted glass.
