hi guys. well i've got my MOT coming up extremely soon, and ive got to have sooo much stuff done otherwise it'll fail. so, i need new drums and shoes for the back. wanted to get the alloy mini fins, but do they really make that much of a difference for the price? i saw some on ebay for 55 quid. standard drums are 10 each ish. i just need an answer quick because i dunno what to do but i;ve got to order today.

ah why the hell did i leave it so late :dontgetit:

cheers guys,
Stef

I've not got them but I was umming and ahhing wether to bother...

I don't like the look of them on most minis to be honest and I doubt the added cooling efficency is even noticable

I'd save yr cash if i were you :dontgetit: I'm going to

so you reckon if i just get standard drums and maybe some mintex shoes or something then it'd be sufficient?

just everyone seems to have the minifins, if they are worth it i'll get them.

standard minis with 8.4 inch discs on the front need the drum with a 1 inch spacer right?

i thought more leading edges increaded breaking power. don't see how fins on the drum help at all apart from heat disapation. the only time you need that is if your really hammering it.

well thats my 2cents

well im looking on minispares. 25 quid for a pair of standard drums. 10 for some shoes. 3.60 for springs. pretty good. i wanted to go minispares anyway....

one problem. i need brake disc pad retainer clips and pins, but cant seem to find the right ones anywhere on minispares for 8.4 inch discs.

can anyone help?

also, i put new pads on not that long ago, green stuffs. my callipers are f**ked, and make them rub and pull to one side. im getting new ones put on, am i gonna have to buy new pads agian as well even tho ive only had these a few months?

cheers for the replys, i like saving money =)

the minifins are worth it if your planning on hard driving. they do keep your brakes from cooking and the weight saved is worth it too. if your car is a road runner for general use then id stick to the standard ones, if a hardcore racer then the fins are the way to go.

well im no granny put it that way. its a road runner, eventually going to be made into fast road. so i guess i could just put the mini fins on next time when ive got the money to waste?

i take it these are what i would need:

thought they were 1 inch spacered. the only other ones they do are 3mm spacered so i have to spend an extra 15 quid to buy 3/4 inch spacers for them.

i got an 89 city e, discs on front drums on rear. im pretty sure they are spacered.

might actually be easier just to get the bloody mini fins lol

ah right yeh cheers.

then its 35 quid. i might just get the alloy ones for 55. then i dont have to buy them again later. so i'm assuming if ive got the lip on the front of the drum then i need the 1 inch spacer ones.

cheers,
Stef

Try a search on the forum for minifins... i believe theres been a few posts warning about cheap copies not having been properly made.
